1 لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ

laa uqsimu bihaadzaa albaladi

Aku benar-benar bersumpah dengan kota ini (Mekah),

I swear by this city, Makkah -

2 وَأَنتَ حِلٌّۢ بِهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ

wa-anta hillun bihaadzaa albaladi

dan kamu (Muhammad) bertempat di kota Mekah ini,

And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city -

3 وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ

wawaalidin wamaa walada

dan demi bapak dan anaknya.

And [by] the father and that which was born [of him],

4 لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ

laqad khalaqnaa al-insaana fii kabadin

Sesungguhnya Kami telah menciptakan manusia berada dalam susah payah.

We have certainly created man into hardship.

5 أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ

ayahsabu an lan yaqdira 'alayhi ahadun

Apakah manusia itu menyangka bahwa sekali-kali tiada seorangpun yang berkuasa atasnya?

Does he think that never will anyone overcome him?

6 يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا

yaquulu ahlaktu maalan lubadaan

Dan mengatakan: "Aku telah menghabiskan harta yang banyak".

He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance."

7 أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ

ayahsabu an lam yarahu ahadun

Apakah dia menyangka bahwa tiada seorangpun yang melihatnya?

Does he think that no one has seen him?

8 أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُۥ عَيْنَيْنِ

alam naj'al lahu 'aynayni

Bukankah Kami telah memberikan kepadanya dua buah mata,

Have We not made for him two eyes?

10 وَهَدَيْنَٰهُ ٱلنَّجْدَيْنِ

wahadaynaahu alnnajdayni

Dan Kami telah menunjukkan kepadanya dua jalan,

And have shown him the two ways?

11 فَلَا ٱقْتَحَمَ ٱلْعَقَبَةَ

falaa iqtahama al'aqabata

Tetapi dia tiada menempuh jalan yang mendaki lagi sukar.

But he has not broken through the difficult pass.

12 وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْعَقَبَةُ

wamaa adraaka maa al'aqabatu

Tahukah kamu apakah jalan yang mendaki lagi sukar itu?

And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass?

14 أَوْ إِطْعَٰمٌ فِى يَوْمٍ ذِى مَسْغَبَةٍ

aw ith'aamun fii yawmin dzii masghabatin

atau memberi makan pada hari kelaparan,

Or feeding on a day of severe hunger

15 يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ

yatiiman dzaa maqrabatin

(kepada) anak yatim yang ada hubungan kerabat,

An orphan of near relationship

16 أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ

aw miskiinan dzaa matrabatin

atau kepada orang miskin yang sangat fakir.

Or a needy person in misery

17 ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْمَرْحَمَةِ

tsumma kaana mina alladziina aamanuu watawaasaw bialshshabri watawaasaw bialmarhamati

Dan dia (tidak pula) termasuk orang-orang yang beriman dan saling berpesan untuk bersabar dan saling berpesan untuk berkasih sayang.

And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion.

18 أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ

ulaa-ika ash-haabu almaymanati

Mereka (orang-orang yang beriman dan saling berpesan itu) adalah golongan kanan.

Those are the companions of the right.

19 وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ

waalladziina kafaruu bi-aayaatinaa hum ash-haabu almasy-amati

Dan orang-orang yang kafir kepada ayat-ayat Kami, mereka itu adalah golongan kiri.

But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left.

20 عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌۢ

'alayhim naarun mu/shadatun

Mereka berada dalam neraka yang ditutup rapat.

Over them will be fire closed in.
