1 سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ

sa-ala saa-ilun bi'adzaabin waaqi'in

Seseorang telah meminta kedatangan azab yang akan menimpa,

A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen

2 لِّلْكَٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌ

lilkaafiriina laysa lahu daafi'un

orang-orang kafir, yang tidak seorangpun dapat menolaknya,

To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer.

3 مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ

mina allaahi dzii alma'aariji

(yang datang) dari Allah, Yang mempunyai tempat-tempat naik.

[It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent.

4 تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ

ta'ruju almalaa-ikatu waalrruuhu ilayhi fii yawmin kaana miqdaaruhu khamsiina alfa sanatin

Malaikat-malaikat dan Jibril naik (menghadap) kepada Tuhan dalam sehari yang kadarnya limapuluh ribu tahun.

The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years.

5 فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا

faishbir shabran jamiilaan

Maka bersabarlah kamu dengan sabar yang baik.

So be patient with gracious patience.

6 إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًا

innahum yarawnahu ba'iidaan

Sesungguhnya mereka memandang siksaaan itu jauh (mustahil).

Indeed, they see it [as] distant,

8 يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ

yawma takuunu alssamaau kaalmuhli

Pada hari ketika langit menjadi seperti luluhan perak,

On the Day the sky will be like murky oil,

9 وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ

watakuunu aljibaalu kaal'ihni

dan gunung-gunung menjadi seperti bulu (yang berterbangan),

And the mountains will be like wool,

10 وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا

walaa yas-alu hamiimun hamiimaan

dan tidak ada seorang teman akrabpun menanyakan temannya,

And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend,

11 يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيهِ

yubashsharuunahum yawaddu almujrimu law yaftadii min 'adzaabi yawmi-idzin bibaniihi

sedang mereka saling memandang. Orang kafir ingin kalau sekiranya dia dapat menebus (dirinya) dari azab hari itu dengan anak-anaknya,

They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children

13 وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِى تُـْٔوِيهِ

wafashiilatihi allatii tu/wiihi

dan kaum familinya yang melindunginya (di dunia).

And his nearest kindred who shelter him

14 وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ

waman fii al-ardhi jamii'an tsumma yunjiihi

Dan orang-orang di atas bumi seluruhnya kemudian (mengharapkan) tebusan itu dapat menyelamatkannya.

And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him.

15 كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ

kallaa innahaa lazhaa

Sekali-kali tidak dapat, sesungguhnya neraka itu adalah api yang bergolak,

No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell],

17 تَدْعُوا۟ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ

tad'uu man adbara watawallaa

yang memanggil orang yang membelakang dan yang berpaling (dari agama),

It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience]

19 ۞ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا

inna al-insaana khuliqa haluu'aan

Sesungguhnya manusia diciptakan bersifat keluh kesah lagi kikir.

Indeed, mankind was created anxious:

20 إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا

idzaa massahu alsysyarru jazuu'aan

Apabila ia ditimpa kesusahan ia berkeluh kesah,

When evil touches him, impatient,

21 وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا

wa-idzaa massahu alkhayru manuu'aan

dan apabila ia mendapat kebaikan ia amat kikir,

And when good touches him, withholding [of it],

23 ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَآئِمُونَ

illaa almushalliina

yang mereka itu tetap mengerjakan shalatnya,

Those who are constant in their prayer

24 وَٱلَّذِينَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ

waalladziina fii amwaalihim haqqun ma'luumun

dan orang-orang yang dalam hartanya tersedia bagian tertentu,

And those within whose wealth is a known right

25 لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ

lilssaa-ili waalmahruumi

bagi orang (miskin) yang meminta dan orang yang tidak mempunyai apa-apa (yang tidak mau meminta),

For the petitioner and the deprived -

26 وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ

waalladziina yushaddiquuna biyawmi alddiini

dan orang-orang yang mempercayai hari pembalasan,

And those who believe in the Day of Recompense

27 وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ

waalladziina hum min 'adzaabi rabbihim musyfiquuna

dan orang-orang yang takut terhadap azab Tuhannya.

And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord -

28 إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ

inna 'adzaaba rabbihim ghayru ma/muunin

Karena sesungguhnya azab Tuhan mereka tidak dapat orang merasa aman (dari kedatangannya).

Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe -

29 وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَٰفِظُونَ

waalladziina hum lifuruujihim haafizhuuna

Dan orang-orang yang memelihara kemaluannya,

And those who guard their private parts

30 إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ

illaa 'alaa azwaajihim aw maa malakat aymaanuhum fa-innahum ghayru maluumiina

kecuali terhadap isteri-isteri mereka atau budak-budak yang mereka miliki, maka sesungguhnya mereka dalam hal ini tiada tercela.

Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed -

31 فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ

famani ibtaghaa waraa-a dzaalika faulaa-ika humu al'aaduuna

Barangsiapa mencari yang di balik itu, maka mereka itulah orang-orang yang melampaui batas.

But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors -

32 وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَٰنَٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ

waalladziina hum li-amaanaatihim wa'ahdihim raa'uuna

Dan orang-orang yang memelihara amanat-amanat (yang dipikulnya) dan janjinya.

And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive

33 وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَٰدَٰتِهِمْ قَآئِمُونَ

waalladziina hum bisyahaadaatihim qaa-imuuna

Dan orang-orang yang memberikan kesaksiannya.

And those who are in their testimonies upright

34 وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ

waalladziina hum 'alaa shalaatihim yuhaafizhuuna

Dan orang-orang yang memelihara shalatnya.

And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer:

35 أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ

ulaa-ika fii jannaatin mukramuuna

Mereka itu (kekal) di surga lagi dimuliakan.

They will be in gardens, honored.

36 فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ

famaali alladziina kafaruu qibalaka muhthi'iina

Mengapakah orang-orang kafir itu bersegera datang ke arahmu,

So what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve, hastening [from] before you, [O Muhammad],

37 عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ

'ani alyamiini wa'ani alsysyimaali 'iziina

dari kanan dan dari kiri dengan berkelompok-kelompok.

[To sit] on [your] right and [your] left in separate groups?

38 أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ

ayathma'u kullu imri-in minhum an yudkhala jannata na'iimin

Adakah setiap orang dari orang-orang kafir itu ingin masuk ke dalam surga yang penuh kenikmatan?,

Does every person among them aspire to enter a garden of pleasure?

39 كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ

kallaa innaa khalaqnaahum mimmaa ya'lamuuna

sekali-kali tidak! Sesungguhnya Kami ciptakan mereka dari apa yang mereka ketahui (air mani).

No! Indeed, We have created them from that which they know.

40 فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْمَشَٰرِقِ وَٱلْمَغَٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَٰدِرُونَ

falaa uqsimu birabbi almasyaariqi waalmaghaaribi innaa laqaadiruuna

Maka aku bersumpah dengan Tuhan Yang memiliki timur dan barat, sesungguhnya Kami benar-benar Maha Kuasa.

So I swear by the Lord of [all] risings and settings that indeed We are able

41 عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ

'alaa an nubaddila khayran minhum wamaa nahnu bimasbuuqiina

Untuk mengganti (mereka) dengan kaum yang lebih baik dari mereka, dan Kami sekali-kali tidak dapat dikalahkan.

To replace them with better than them; and We are not to be outdone.

42 فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ

fadzarhum yakhuudhuu wayal'abuu hattaa yulaaquu yawmahumu alladzii yuu'aduuna

Maka biarkanlah mereka tenggelam (dalam kebatilan) dan bermain-main sampai mereka menjumpai hari yang diancamkan kepada mereka,

So leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised -

43 يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ

yawma yakhrujuuna mina al-ajdaatsi siraa'an ka-annahum ilaa nushubin yuufidhuuna

(yaitu) pada hari mereka keluar dari kubur dengan cepat seakan-akan mereka pergi dengan segera kepada berhala-berhala (sewaktu di dunia),

The Day they will emerge from the graves rapidly as if they were, toward an erected idol, hastening.

44 خَٰشِعَةً أَبْصَٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ

khaasyi'atan abshaaruhum tarhaquhum dzillatun dzaalika alyawmu alladzii kaanuu yuu'aduuna

dalam keadaan mereka menekurkan pandangannya (serta) diliputi kehinaan. Itulah hari yang dahulunya diancamkan kepada mereka.

Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. That is the Day which they had been promised.
